Paris Saint-Germain Overcomes Olympique de Marseille via Spot-Kicks to Lift Trophee des Champions Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now claimed the season-opening cup on fourteen different times.

The Parisian giants required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a successful spot-kick decider to get past Marseille in the Gulf and capture a fourth straight Trophee des Champions victory.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the French league winners and the French Cup winners after the French winger opened the scoring in the opening stages.

Yet, Marseille fired two times in the closing moments to take a surprise lead. First, Mason Greenwood converted from the spot-kick, before Willian Pacho unfortunately turned the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial leveler in the final seconds to send the contest into a penalty shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the key figure, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

In the shootout, Ramos, Vitinha, the full-back, and the young talent all scored successfully for PSG to seal a convincing shootout victory.

Now 14-time winners PSG, who faced last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now won this competition for the twelfth time in the last thirteen years.
